[ Highlight ] Fujiwara Takenori, whose real name was Hashimoto Takehira, was born in 1911 (Meiji 44) and studied sword making under the second generation Fujiwara Kazunori from 1933 to 1939 (Showa 8-14). After becoming independent, he won prizes at the New Japanese Sword Exhibition for five consecutive years from 1939, became a teacher at the Toyohashi Military Training School in 1940 and became an army-appointed swordsmith in 1942. After the war, he received approval to make swords in 1960, and was active in the New Sword Exhibition, producing Bizen-den, Yamato-den and Hizen-tou copies of swords. He died in 1973. His son, Hashimoto Isao, is the swordsmith Fujiwara Motohisa and has passed on the techniques he developed.
This work has a well-balanced figure with a broad, long body and a fine, well-polished jigane base. It is an excellent work from the later years of the swordsmith's life, with a wide, random blade that is nie and shows changes, and appears to be a copy of a Hizen sword, which is his speciality. The Nenki era "O-shun" refers to the New Year.
