Kanesada was a swordsmith from Seki in the Koshu region in the late Muromachi period (1336-1573). The signature of Kanesada, a master swordsmith considered to be the twin of Magoroku Kanemoto, was followed by the Kanesada Domei signature from the Tenbun to Tensho periods, and this sword is thought to have been made in the same way. The sword is inscribed with the three characters 'Kanetsada-saku', with the character 'Uokane', which resembles a 'fish', slightly closer to the ridge.
