[ Highlight ] Hirotaka of Hoki was a swordsmith of the Echizen Shimosaka school during the Kanbun period. Shigetaka of Harima Daijo was also a swordsmith of the same school, with the first generation active during the Kanei period and the second generation during the Kanbun period. The first generation Shigetaka was a disciple of the first generation Yasutsugu and has examples of collaborative works with Iwami no Kami Nobuyori. While many Echizen swordsmiths shaped the tip of the blade into a sword shape or an inverted mountain shape, Shigetaka opted for a chestnut-shaped tip, and compared to the second generation, the first generation's chestnut-shaped tip is shallower. This sword has a sword-shaped tip, and there is a similar sword created jointly by Hoki no Kami Hirotaka and Harima Daijo Shigetaka dated 9 September 1675. The slightly vertical shape of the signature suggests that it was created jointly with the second Shigetaka. Hirotaka and Shigetaka had similar styles, and this sword suggests that they actually exchanged techniques. This is a healthy naginata with well-grained jigane and a raw stem.
