[ Highlight ]
Hamabe Toshizane was the son of Toshinori Jukaku, called Gihachiro, and created swords in Tottori in the late Edo period. His first signature was Toshikuni, later changed to Toshizane, and from the first year of the Kyouwa era, his name was changed to Minryushi. His works span the Kansei, Kyowa, Bunka and Bunsei periods. One work bears the signature 'Hamabe Mino no kami Toshinori: Father and Son korewo tusukuru, ko-nen 65 yos old, Bunka 6 nen hachigatsu-hi Minryu-shi Toshizane 33 yos old'. The Toshizane family included Kawamura Hisataka, a Shinshu Ueda clan member who taught the technique of created swords to the brothers Yamaura Masao and Kiyomaro, as well as Miyoshi Banryu-shi Nagahiro and Takenaka Kunihiko. This work has a random blade with a small knife-like pattern and a sharp blade and tamayaki, which are the specialities of the Hamabe school.
