[ Feature ]
The blade features a shinogi-zukuri construction with an iori-mune ridge; the width and thickness are ordinary, with a deep curvature, narrow koshi width, and a small tip.
The engraving consists of rod-shaped grooves carved on both the front and back, finished with rounded ends.
The nakago tang is highly polished, with a file mark sloping downwards; the tip is chestnut-shaped, and there are two mekugi holes (one of which is filled).
The jigane has an itame-hada pattern, with a slightly raised grain, interspersed here and there with a hint of ayasugi, and white reflections standing out.
The hamon is a fine, straight line, interspersed with fraying and interlocking patterns, with small沸 (niei).
The boushi returns straight and round, sweeping out at the tip.

There is an old inscription on the scabbard reading ‘Sword handed down in the Takemura family’, and inscriptions by Mr Tanobe Tansan are present on both the front and back of the scabbard.

[ Highlight ] Among the group of swordsmiths from Naminohira in Satsuma Province, whose tradition stretched continuously from the late Heian period through to the Shin-Shinto period, those who created swords dating back to the Nanboku-cho period or earlier are referred to as ‘Ko Namino-hira’. This piece is a fine example that well illustrates the characteristics of Ko-Naminohira. Although heavily polished, it possesses a deep curvature and a fine, narrow tip. The grain flows in an itame-hada pattern with a subtle texture, featuring white reflections and hints of an ayasugi-style pattern, showing the qualities of Kyushu jigane. The fine, straight hamon is interspersed with fraying and interlocking edges, making it a sword of great depth and character.

[ Conditions ] There are slight flaws, but otherwise it is excellent.
