Kuniie

[ Feature ]
Form : Shinogi-zukuri. Iori-mune. Mihaba is wide. Kasane is ordinal. Funbari and deep sori attached. Chû-kissaki form.
Nakago : Ubu. Yasurimes are katte-sagari. Saki is kuri-jiri. One hole.
Horimono (engravings) : On omote and ura sides, bô-hi engravings with maru-dome stops. On omote, the character "南无". On ura, crawling dragon and swirl relief.
Jigane : Ko-itame-hada well grained. Chikei appeared. Around koshi-moto, there are pale chô-ji-utsuri appeared.
Hamon : Nioi-deki. Chô-ji-midare, ô-fusa-chô-ji, jyû-ka-chô-ji mixed. Yaki-haba is wide. Brilliant ashis and yôs appeared. Bright nioi-kuchi is distinctive and clear.
Boushi : It runs in midare-komi. Saki turns becoming sharp (in togari-gokoro).

[ Highlight ]
Swordsmith YOSHIHARA Kuniie has his ordinal name YOSHIHARA Sôji. He was born in February Shôwa 20(1945). His father is YOSHIHARA Masahiro. His grandfather is YOSHIHARA Kuniie. He learned swords creation under his grandfather Kuniie with his brother YOSHIHARA Yoshindo. This sword is one of his excellent piece, who is good at brilliant bizen-den Fukuoka Ichimonji utsushi, which hamon is well organized, and jigane is so strong. In deep engravings, relief is given by KOKEGUCHI Senshû, who is a sword engraver. Engraver Senshû thoght it mandatory there must be relationship of engraving on omote and ura in oneness. Certainly, arranging the image of engravings, not only their balance, form and scripture are exellent but turning around dragon's graze catch two characters " 南無(无)". It reflect on the observer, asking the meaning of calling "南無", or even the existence of sword itself. It has such deep power. It may be buddhism motif the swirl ahead of dragon. Swordsmith Kunie approved as Mukansa in Shôwa 57 ; engraver Senshû in Shôwa 58, same year of this sword creation.
