He was influenced to become a swordsmith by his older brother, Yoshimune Takahashi, and in 1917 he became a student of Gassan Sadakazu and Gassan Sadakatsu. After working as an instructor for the Central Sword Association and making swords in his home town of Saijo, he established his own swordsmithing workshop in Matsuyama in 1930. He received numerous awards, including the Prime Minister's Prize at the New Japanese Sword Exhibition, the Minister of Education Prize, the Minister of Army Prize, the Minister of Navy Prize, and the Special Prize at the Created Swords Exhibition.
