Kunimasa was a pupil of HORIKAWA Kunihiro. He had his signature in two characters. Few swords have been confirmed but he was one of master class swordsmith in the school.
Its style, nakago finish and signature show resemblance to Kunihiro, so that it could be considered that he was a co-worker or a smith who created the sword on behalf of Kunihiro. There was a sword with signature "国安正作 国正", it had a meaning as a sword created by Kuniyasu and Kunimasa literally, and signature order shows Kuniyasu was a senpai of Kunimasa. There were swords with signature "武州江戸住藤原国正" with hoso-tagane(thin chiseling), which showed close resemblance to the sword with signature "国安正作 国正", such as gunome mixed ko-notare hamon, ô-sujikai yasurimes. Taking those facts account, it was possible to consider that Kunimasa moved to Edo later, or second generation Kunimasa existed.
