[ Province ] -

[ Feature ]
Form : Shinogi-zukuri. Iori-mune. Kasane is thick compared with mihaba. Shinogi is high. Relatively deep sori attached. Chû-kissaki a little shortened form.
Nakago : Suri-age. Yasurimes are kiri. Saki is very shallow kuri-jiri. Two holes.
Horimono : On omote and ura side, there is a bô-"hi". Its stop is kaki-nagashi style.
Jigane : On itame, masa mixed. Hada is in tatsu state. Jinie attached. Chikei appeared. Shirake-utsuri-tatsu state.
Hamon : Hoso-suguha. Nioi-kuchi is distinctive. Ko-nie attached. Ko-ashis appeared.
Boushi : It runs in sugu, then turns in round. Saki is haki-kake.

[ Highlight ]
As historical backgrounds; Mongolian (later Yüan) emperor Kublai Khan succeeded to rule Koryo, then he intended to have friendly intercourse with Japan. He sent sovereign's message in Bun-ei 文永 2(1265). An envoy reached in Bun-ei 文永 4(1267). Japan side did not agree for all consequnet envoys. At last, 15,000 troops of Mogolian-Han and 8.000 troops of Koryo, commanded by Hong Cha-qiur and Hindun, began their maneuver (the Bun-ei invasion). On the other hand, as domestic issue, the battle between monks of Enryaku-ji temple and On-jyô-ji temple became so intense. The demand of arms soared by the monks who lived in Ö-mi and Yamashiro provinces. According to one theory, such historical background, a child (or a pupil) of RAI Kunitoshi, Ryôkai became a priest in his 16 years old. In his 17 years old, he became a pupil of Aya-no-kô-ji Sadatoshi, then became a swordsmith.(e.g. "新刀古刀大鑑" KAWAGUCHI Wataru 川口陟 Rekishi Toshosya 歴史図書社 Shôwa 47). Later, Ryôkai formed a school, swordsmith who had their signature Ryôkai so-and-so. Many moved to Kyû-shû. Such swordsmiths' swords called Chikushi-Ryôkai 筑紫了戒. Even MIYAMOTO Musashi loved its cutting edge, held it as his favorite sword. This sword is suriage, however, it attached deep sori, smart form. The color of iron skin have some variants, changes of light and shade. Distinctive hoso-suguha wears dignified appearance.
