[ Signature ] (omote) : -

[ Size ] : Blade length : 74.2cm (2 shaku 4 sun 4 bu 8 rin), sori : 1.1cm (3 bu 6 rin), moto-haba : 3.32cm, moto-kasane : 0.75cm, saki-haba : 2.07cm, saki-kasane : 0.43cm, mekugi-ana(holes) : 1, blade weight : 762g, shirasaya length : 104cm
[ Period ] : Edo, around Kanbun (1661-1673)
[ Province ] : Hizen

[ Feature ] : Shape : Shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune. Mihaba is wide. Kasane is ordinal. Shinogi-haba (width of shinogi) is relatively wide considering mihaba. Shallow sori attached. Sakihaba becomes narrower. Chu-kissaki extended form.
Nakago : Ubu, yasurimes are o-suji-kai. Saki is iriyama-gata. One hole. There are tachi-mei(sashi-ura) as naga-mei(long signature)
Jigane : Ko-itame-hada well grained. Fine jinie attached. Fine chikei appeared.
Hamon : Suguha, it has a little notare. Nioi is deep. Kui-chigai-ba resembled "ha"s mixed. Rich nie attached. Sunagashis appeared frequently. Kinsuji appeared well.
Boshi : It runs in sugu, nie attached well. It turns in komaru.

Hizen second generation Masahiro was a child of first generation Hizen Kawachi Dai-jo Masahiro. He was born in Kanei 4(1627).
He called himself Sa-den-jiro. Initially he wrote his signature as Masanaga. He received Kawachi-daijo in Manji 3(1660). Then he turned into Musashi-no-kami. When he was 39 years old, his father was died, he received Kawachi-no-kami, changed his name to Masahiro. In his works, there were many midare-ba swords but he was good at sugu-ha, like this sword. He had equivalent skills as his father. He was considered as providing the support for Hashimoto head family, who represented Hizen-tou. He died in his 73 years old in Genroku 12(1699).


[ Highlight ] :
The sword which you can appreciate chu-sugu-ha in deep nioi, well grained kome-nuka (rice bran) surface, grand form, wide mihaba, thick and heavy feeling on hand.
It is be regretted that there are some rough surface portions on jigane. However, the condition of nakago is excellent. Polishing and shirasaya were done and created new recently. You can appreciate and preserve as they are.

[ Condition ] : The blade was polished, koshirae was made recently. There are some rough surface from the middle to monouchi of blade.

[ Attachments ] : Suaka(copper) single gold foiled habaki, shirasaya, bag of shirasaya, NBTHK Hozon paper.
