目釘抜きを使って、目釘を抜きます。
Remove the Mekugi with Mekugi-nuki.

目釘をなくさないよう、置く場所を決めておきましょう。柄に戻すのも良い方法です。
Fix the place to put Mekugi not to lose it. Returning it to the Tsuka is also good.

目釘が固くて抜けない時は、目釘抜きの小槌の上部に付属している部品をはずし、
目釘に当てて小槌で軽く叩きます。

軽く鯉口を切り、鞘から刀身を一定のペースで抜き出します。
After you loosen the sword lightly, pull out the blade from the sheath by a constant pace.

棟だけを鞘の溝に走らせるようにして、刀身が鞘の内部に触れないよう慎重に行います。

柄を外します。柄を左手でしっかり握り、刀身を垂直方向から向かって左に約30度弱位の角度で斜めに傾け、右手で左手の手首を軽く叩きます。強く叩いたり、刀身を傾けすぎると飛び出して危険です。様子をみながら、数回叩くと少しずつ自然に刀身が柄から抜けてきます。

Remove the Tsuka. Firmly grip the Tsuka by the left hand, incline the blade to right about 45 degrees toward from the vertical direction, and beat the wrist of the left hand by the right hand lightly. Please start from the weak force.

Enlevez le Tsuka. Fermement saisissez le Tsuka par la main gauche, inclinez la lame pour redresser approximativement 45 degrés vers de la direction verticale et battez légèrement le poignet de la main gauche par la main droite. Veuillez démarrer à partir de la force faible.

ハバキを外します。しっかりと茎を持ち、ゆっくりと茎のほうへ
滑らせるようにして外しましょう。
Remove the Habaki. let's hold the Nakago firmly, and slowly make it slide and remove toward the Nakago.

古い油を拭います。上質な柔らかいティッシュペーパーを折りたたんで使います。棟側でティッシュペーパーを折り返し親指と人さし指で刀身を挟むようにして、ハバキ元から切先に向かってゆっくりと拭います。
Wipe the old oil with the fine quality tissue paper. With the tissue paper which is turned on the Mune side, and wipe it slowly from Habaki-moto to Kissaki.
Essuyez la vieille huile avec le papier de soie de la qualité fin. Avec le papier de soie qui est tourné sur le côté Mune, et l'essuie lentement de Habaki-moto à Kissaki.



ティッシュペーパーのきれいな面を使用して、数回拭います。

打ち粉をつけます。ヒケの原因となる大きな粉を払うため、いちど茎を軽くたたきます。ハバキ元から切先まで、刀の両面と棟に数センチの間隔を置きながらまんべんなくポンポンとつけていきます。
Apply the sword powder putting the interval of about three centimeters on both sides and the Mune of the sword.

打ち粉を拭います。先ほどと同じように、ハバキ元から切先へ向かって拭います。
この作業を繰り返し、打ち粉を拭い取ります。

打ち粉は砥石の細かい粉を布でくるんだものです。刀身に残った古い油を除去する働きがありますが、使いすぎると研磨の状態が悪くなったりヒケをつくることもあるので、ほどほどが良いようです。

Wipe the sword powder with the tissue paper from Habaki-moto to Kissaki, and repeat the work.

さて、古い油を拭い取る作業がおわりました。ここからしばらく鑑賞をします。
錆が発生していないか、細かいキズや異常がないかなどを確認します。

片手でしっかりと茎を持ち、まず全体を観ます。

刀身に光源をあて、袱紗を添えて、刀の全体をくまなく鑑賞します。光源のよく当たる位置を見つけてその周辺に視線を置き、袱紗を添えた左手は動かさず、弓を引くような感じで右手だけ動かすと、ハバキ元から切先へと全体を上手に観ることができます。袱紗と刀身が擦れないよう、浮かせながら動かします。

Appropriate the source of light to the blade, and affix the silk wrapping cloth (Fukusa), then look at the blade well.

鑑賞が終わったら、刀をいったん鞘に戻すか刀枕にあずけ、丁字油をネル布にしみ込ませます。
刀枕は、手入や鑑賞のときに近くに置いておくとたいへん役に立ちます。

丁字油をしみ込ませたネル布を刀身全体に薄く平にまんべんなく塗布します。切先や棟、ハバキ元なども塗り残しのないようムラなくつけます。丁字油の付け過ぎは鞘を痛めるため良くありません。空気に触れないよう、刀身の全体を薄く丁字油で包み込むような感じで行います。
手についた油は茎にもみ込むようにして軽くつけます。

Choji-oil is thinly spread on the entire blade evenly, Kissaki and Mune and Habaki-moto also. The oil that attaches to the hand is applied to Nakago lightly.

ハバキ、柄、目釘、鞘の順番で元に戻します。柄に刀身を納めたら、柄頭を下からポンと手のひらで打ちますとピタッと納まります。鞘に刀身を納めるときは、抜く時と同様、棟のみを鯉口の内部の溝に当て、ガタつかないようにゆっくりと行います。

Returns it in order of Habaki, Handle, Mekugi and the sheath. To put the Nakago to former position, hitting the Tsuka-kashira from under by the palm is good way.

手入が終わったら、刀袋に入れ、湿度の少ない場所に横にして置きます。樟脳やナフタリンの近くは避けます。手入は通常3ヶ月に1度行いますが、研ぎ上がりの刀は水分を含み錆びやすいため、半年の間は1ヶ月ごとに手入が必要です。

Finally, put the sword in a sword bag, and keep laying in the place where humidity is a little. Please avoid camphor and naphthalene. The maintenance is usually done once every three months, but the sword sharpened recently may be contained moisture and rust easily so it is necessary to do every month during half a year.

Finalement, mettez l'épée dans un sac de l'épée et continuez à mettre dans la place où l'humidité est un peu. Veuillez éviter camphre et naphthalene. L'entretien est fait habituellement une fois chaques trois mois, mais l'épée a aiguisé récemment peut être contenu facilement humidité et rouille donc c'est nécessaire à faire chaque mois pendant la moitié d'une année.
